Fiduciary Management Standards

Fiduciary management has matured in the Netherlands since it was first pioneered around the turn of the century. In 2008, the Dutch Fund Association (DUFAS) took the initiative to put this model on paper. The result is embodied in the Fiduciary Management Principles. As a leader in fiduciary management in the Netherlands, MN was one of the founding members of the task force that developed these principles. In addition to the principles, a Fiduciary Management Agreement template together with Explanatory Notes have been published. The Dutch Association of Corporate Pension Funds (OPF) has endorsed the principles and encourages members to obtain fiduciary management solutions in a manner that is consistent with these principles.

While the Fiduciary Management Principles and the Fiduciary Management Agreement template have been designed for use in the Dutch market, many of the concepts are relevant to fiduciary management in other markets as well. We hope that these documents help UK pension schemes gain a better understanding of what fiduciary management is and isn’t, at least as far as it is practised in the Netherlands, and help stimulate a debate about how fiduciary management can and should be applied in the UK.
